The annual GCC Fine Arts Student Exhibition is back! This years show, titled Perspective: GCC Fine Arts Student Exhibition, will demonstrate the skills the students have learned throughout their art classes. This exhibit emphasizes work in observation, abstraction, mixed-media, portraiture, and developing artistic imagination. The show will feature student work from Drawing 1 & 2, Painting 1 & 2, Ceramics 1, 2-D Design, 3-D Design classes.
Perspective is a technique used to depict volume and spatial relationships between the objects on a flat surface. This allows an artist to play with the depth and texture of a three dimensional object/space on a two dimensional plane. Things look bigger the closer they are to you, while objects in the distance look smaller; that is the work of perspective. There are two types of perspective in the art world. Linear perspective uses vanishing points and converging lines to create the illusion of depth. Atmospheric perspective uses color and clarity to create depth, meaning things in the distance have less color saturation and detail. Perspective also refers to a point of view, or position of seeing the world around us. Having a personal perspective impacts the way someone responds to artwork.
Some of these artists were inspired to create abstract artwork in both concept and execution. Many were influenced by the beauty in their environment, finding inspiration in plant life, landscapes, and the human figure. The ceramics students utilize the coil method, carving methods, sculpture techniques, and wheel throwing methods to bring their projects to life. The texture of the artworks and the vibrancy of the glazes draw you in. Both the two-dimensional and three-dimensional artworks displayed show an attention to detail and a fondness for the craft.
Perspective runs from March 18 - April 3, 2025. We will host two receptions on March 27, from 12:30-2pm & 5-7pm.
Gallery hours :Tues/Thurs 10am-5pm, Wednesdays 9:30am-1:30pm
