Genesee Community College new Food Processing Technology (FPT) program focuses on New York State’s burgeoning food industry and will help provide the skilled workforce that food industry professionals need today and long into the future. The program has been designed to give students as well as currently employed workers the knowledge, skills and experience they need to become the front runners in our local food industry future and economy.
Students in the program learn the principles of food science including the chemical, physical and microbiological properties of food, as well as the technology used to create an abundant supply of safe, nutritious and delicious food supplies. Beyond classroom lectures and science laboratory experiments, students can engage in a related FPT internship as part of the program.
Greg Sharpe, GCC’s lead instructor in the program, has more than 20 years of experience in the food processing industry and he will be touring Western New York in the coming weeks to provide information about the program. With his vast experience he can share a wealth of insight, from the latest technology and regulations about food safety to simple logistics of enrollment, including GCC’s fall 2015 semester.
Please feel free to contact either one of us if you have questions, need additional flyers, or would like to discuss the program, including potential internship opportunities. Thank you.
