Genesee Community College is presenting Stephen King’s classic horror thriller, Misery this November. William Goldman adapted the acclaimed novel into a stage play, which premiered on Broadway in 2015. The play will be performed on November 8 & 9 at 7:30pm, and November 10 at 2:00pm.
Misery follows romance author Paul Sheldon, as he completes his Victorian era romance series in a Colorado hotel. Ready to explore other genres, Paul pens a new crime novel, which he hopes will bring him literary acclaim. After a night of celebrating, Paul decides to drive to Los Angles, and gets caught in a snowstorm. He crashes his car near the remote town of Sidewinder, Colorado.
Annie Wilkes, a former nurse and devoted fan on Sheldon’s romance novels, rescues Paul and takes him to her home to recover. Paul is grateful for her help, but becomes uneasy when she refuses to take him to a hospital for his broken bones. Something sinister lurks below Annie’s devotion to him, and the author finds himself in a dangerous environment. Paul is forced to write like his life depends on it, if he hopes to survive.
“There are no lulls in famed screenwriter William Goldman’s 90-minute stage adaptation of the Stephen King story, which Goldman himself translated into the 1990 film… Exposition that took a dozen pages in paperback and at least several minutes on screen plays out…faster than snow piling up in a Colorado blizzard.” —WNBC NY.
